Everlong ( Daughters is Askara book 1)
By Hailey Edwards
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The most damaged heart can fly with the right pair of wings.

Madelyn’s life is far from fairytale perfect. She is second in line for the throne of a corrupt, brutal monarchy. Or at least she was until her dark guardian sacrificed his life to hide her safely in a realm of infinite possibilities.

For years she’s lived among a colony of escaped slaves as her guardian’s widow. Even in this simple life, though, nothing is as it seems. Her hero kept a secret—a younger brother named Clayton Delaney. Warrior, winged demon…and the man who now wants to lay claim to her heart.

No longer cast in his brother’s shadow, Clayton meets all obstacles head on, including one named Maddie. His infatuation with her reaches the breaking point when she undergoes a royal rite of passage, going into heat and pushing them both over the edge.

Just as Maddie learns that some risks are worth taking, she discovers that her guardian may be alive. And she’s forced to make a choice between the man she’d thought she loved, and the demon willing to lend her his wings.

I so enjoyed this! It was a little different to what you normally get with a book including demons usually they are the big bad. This was a beautiful story of loss and friendship. It was honestly such a beautiful quick read. The characters were developing nicely ready for the next book. Only thing that knocked it from a 5 star was the ending was kinda predictable even so I really enjoyed it.

Brooding Southern Gothic horror movie starring and directed by Bill Paxton. Two young boys don't quite know how to react when their father announces he has been chosen by God to become a demon hunter; this involves hitting people with a big axe a lot. Low-key stuff for the most part; Paxton does a good job of taking you into the world of this family and their rather peculiar take on what is 'normal', strong performances all round.

Sadly the film is virtually undone by a frame story featuring a pre-McConnaissance Matthew McConnaughey, leading up to a long-way-sub-Shyamalan twist ending; this one element is so convoluted and unconvincing it drags down what's otherwise an atmospheric and effective film into something resembling a forgettable episode of The X Files.

Creepy
I didn't really know what to expect from this movie- and it's a weird one. The acting/cinematography were fine. The story was a little slow moving, but unfolded well enough. Took some strange turns and had plenty of "creep" factor throughout. It doesn't make much sense at first. Wasn't sure if it was going to be a "ghost/haunting" movie or a "demon/possession" movie. Turned out to be kinda both. As it unfolds it all comes together at the end and is explained. Some of the imagery/effects are probably a bit too much for little kids (decapitated bodies, etc) but you adults should enjoy this one if you're into creepy horror movies. While not the greatest movie out there, I'd say this one is definitely worth a watch.

This book is part of the world of Secramore and is the tale of the White Demon after his brother, Hawkwing, dies in The Hawk's Shadow.

Whilst understandable, Hawkshadow/Arythan has major temper issues and does seem to fly off the handle quite quickly. The relationship that develops between him and the "Stone of Prophecy" is a brilliant one although it is left rather suddenly near the end. I am hoping that this relationship and characters develop more in the second book of this series. There are a few relationship endings in this book too, some come as a shock, some are expected. Some names come up that you will recognise too.

On the whole, this is an intriguing tale that still has loads more to tell in the next two books.
