Great storyline, well balanced between dark and light (1 more)
Sweet love story, for the one you can't have perhaps
The first in the series of Amelia and Joshua, beautifully writted
I picked this up for a flight, and hoped to lose myself between the pages. I hadn't realised it was aimed at 13+ young readers but I loved the storyline, with its darker elements and some lovely light touches. Who knows ... can a ghost fall in love with the living?!

This was a solid second novel from Ernie Cline. Of course, the concept was not new, it definitely took from Ender's Game, Flight of the Navigator, etc, but the book wasn't pretending to be an original concept. A video game training the mass population in case of an alien invasion was the storyline.
The only thing I didn't like was the ending... regarding the 'aliens' reasoning for attacking. It was a nice, easy, and quick read.

Drama based in the last flight of the B-52 bomber Memphis Belle, whose crew have survived 24 missions deep into enemy territory during World War 2 and are now about to embark in their final mission and become the first crew to survive a full tour of duty.

This ticks all the boxes expected from such a film; much better in the air (and in the cramped confines of the bomber) than on the ground.

"Me and my girlfriend couldn’t get this song out of our heads for a whole flight to New York. All we knew was the riff. When we landed, I ended up playing the melody on the piano and sending it as a voice note to my pals, asking ‘What the fuck is this song?’ I just knew it was a vaguely cheesy dance thing from the early 2000s that would have been on an Ibiza Creamfields-type compilation."

"This reminds me of a bad moment, but an important moment - and I just love this song so much. I was just coming back from the 2016 Olympics in Rio when Blonde dropped, and I downloaded it as fast as I could for the flight back. I was in a really bad place [missed out on a medal], but it's such a beautiful song and brings me such emotion. It really helped me in that way."

7 Days In Entebbe (2018)
2018 | Action, Drama, International
Inspired by the true events of the 1976 hijacking of an Air France flight en route from Tel Aviv to Paris, and the most daring rescue mission ever attempted.

This is a tricky one for me. There's no denying that it was a interesting, and that if felt well made. But it wasn't really for me. The fact that there were so many well known faces in it made it difficult to concentrate on the story.

Maleficent (2014)
Maleficent (2014)
2014 | Adventure, Family, Fantasy, Sci-Fi
Despite an intriguing premise - basically, Sleeping Beauty from the Evil Fairy's point of view - and Angelina Jolie (with cheekbones so sharp you could cut yourself) in the lead as Maleficent - said evil Fairy Queen - this is a somewhat insipid retelling of the tale, that just (ironically) never really takes flight at all.

Maybe worth a watch (Jolie is always good value for money) on occasion, but not one that I'd be rushing back to re-watch.

Brodie Torrance (Gerard Butler), is a recently widowed dad who looks
forward to completing his nearly empty run from Singapore to Tokyo so he
can take advantage of the time difference and meet up with his daughter in
Hawaii in time to celebrate the new year.

In the new film “Plane” things do not go as planned as the nearly empty
the flight also hosts a prisoner transfer as a dangerous fugitive named Louis
(Mike Colter), is brought onto the flight late.

Forced by a corporate officer to fly through a storm they were told would
be clear by the time they reached it to save time and fuel, the flight
encounters severe issues and soon find themselves without avionics and
forced to make an emergency landing on an island.

Unable to send for help and unsure of their exact location, Brodie learns
that they are on an outer island of the Philippines and that there is only
insurrectionists and militia on the island and that the military or police
are not options.

While attempting to find a way to contact help, Brodie enlists Louis to
help and soon finds that the passengers and crew have been taking hostage
by a brutal local militia. Forced to improvise rescue and wait for
help, the tense and violent situation quickly becomes a living nightmare
as they fight to survive.

The tension level of the film is great as the early segments in the plane
did a great job of showing the routine of a pilot and also ramped up the
tension. I can be a nervous passenger when a plane gets into bad weather
and I found my palms getting sweaty and anxiety creeping in during the
detailed sequences of the flight in peril.

The action of the film was engaging as were the characters as they were
easy to pull for despite not having much in the way of backstory or
character development. The film has plenty of action as was engaging from
start to finish which makes “Plane” a pleasant diversion and one fan of
Butler will not want to miss.

The various systems at play, including flight mechanics, are just complicated enough to be believable, while not hindering gameplay. It also helps that the game looks gorgeous, and runs solidly.

This app has been pretty solid for the last few years. I used it while on vacation, and the ease of checking in and boarding is appreciated while on vacation. My favorite feature is that even when your phone is in airplane mode/don't have internet, you can still access your boarding pass. Another super handy feature is the 'track my bag', so when they make you courtesy check your bag, you know exactly where it is located, and if it's on your flight.
