A promising idea, just badly executed
I really don't think this film deserves the 'worst film of the year' title that a lot of critics have awarded it, but I'm afraid it still is pretty poor.

The basic plot idea on paper sounds interesting and fairly unique - fantasy characters (a la Lord of the Rings) living in present day LA. The problem is it's very badly executed. Instead of being what should be a mostly fantasy film, instead it is a cop buddy film with a vague element of fantasy thrown in almost as an after thought, and which also is a little bit silly.

The humour was mostly poor and misplaced and really not funny at all, and even the action scenes were dull and boring. My other half agreed with me on this one which is unusual, as he usually likes everything.

A promising idea that was sadly squandered.

A dumb, crass fun time
Much like another Zac Effron movie from this year, (Bad Neighbours 2,) this film was much better than anyone expected it to be. It is a lot of fun, the perfect example of a movie that you can watch with your brain switched off and still really enjoy it for what it is. The humour is crass and immature, but it is so well delivered by the cast members that you cannot help but find the dialogue throughout the movie hilarious. Effron has came a long way since his first comedic outing, the first Bad Neighbours movie, in this film his comedic timing and delivery is so consistently spot on and hilarious and doesn’t feel forced. The whole cast look as if they are having a great time throughout and honestly that just makes the movie even more enjoyable.

Not a comedy, but a beautiful drama
This is not a comedy. I repeat this is not a comedy. So if you read reviews saying that it is, they clearly have a very dark sense of humour. This is rather a tragically beautiful drama about writers attempting to make morale-boosting WWII movie which eventually ends up more pro-feminist than expected. The film is being made under perilous circumstances during the blitz, so there is a high casualty turnout. It is a romantic film, but not in the usual situation.

The cast includes some of finest British actors, with brilliant standout performances from Bill Nighy, a brief cameo from Jeremy Irons, Richard E Grant, Sam Clafin (Hunger Games, Me Before You), as well as better than usual performance from Gemma Arterton. I shed a few tears near the end. Hats off for showing women's role during the war effort.

I’d looked at this movie on Netflix and thought, “Hmmm, this might be okay to watch one day.” Well that one day finally arrived and I sat down to watch this, not expecting too much from it.

However, it turned out to be a real gem; the characters were all so loveable, the story was fantastic, and the film itself was packed with genius comedy moments. I haven’t laughed so much at a comedy film for ages, but this movie just keeps the comedy coming.

I’m really pleased that a TV series was made based on the movie to keep the antics of the two boys going, and introducing some new characters into the mix works really well.

As will all comedy movies, some of the humour may not appeal to some, but personally I loved every bit of the film from start to finish.

Enjoyable
Having been nagged by my teen son to watch this movie for some time, I finally got around to watching it. I have to say, I was dubious about Tom Hardy playing the main character to begin with, however I was pleasantly surprised. Hardy was well cast and injected a sense of humour and fun into the role. I did find that Michelle Williams was poorly cast as Hardy’s girlfriend. I found the chemistry between Hardy and Williams was lacking, and Williams was a little wooden in parts.

The plot line was humorous and easy to follow, my teen son loved it. At times, I found the graphics, particularly Venom, were a little cheesy, but I think this was part of the nature of the film.

The film was not overly long, so did not drag out. All in all, an enjoyable watch.

The Departed it isn't
When it's a gangster film set in Boston, it's always going to get compared to The Departed. The problem with Black Mass is it's very similar to The Departed, but sadly not in quality.

The acting and cast are great, there is some fantastic casting in this although it's Johnny Depp that I'm not too sure on. He seems to be a little over the top and his physical transformation is very creepy and disconcerting. The true story is very interesting, but it sometimes comes across as dull and I do have questions over how true some of this. The film is lacking in humour too and they would've done better to try and liven it up somehow. Whilst I appreciate it's a true story, I do feel it's a little lacking. Not one I'd go out of my way to watch again.

Hilariously British
The IT Crowd has to be one of the best sitcoms ever produced in the UK. Whether you are a genius in IT or know absolutely nothing about it, you are able to relate to at least one of the characters, whether it be Jen, who is unable to plug in her own computer, or Moss, who finds is hilarious when motherboards are wired incorrectly. The little quirks of each character are hilarious in themselves, but I find the situations the gang finds themselves in even funnier. The strongest character in the series has to be Moss, whose unintentional humour has me in stitches every time. But Douglas comes in at a close second. The creators of The IT Crowd are absolute geniuses and this show is a must-watch.

<i>'I'm not looking for ecstasy at the foot of an altar or some cataclysmic, earth-shattering experience. All I want is to be enough for one person. For just one person to love me best. I want for one person to like me enough not to want to put his dick into another person'.</i>

____ 4.5 'Dysfunctional' stars

This book appealed to my dark sense of humour so much. Rachel is smart, witty and very funny, she is lost, dysfunctional and a little bit crazy. I liked her a lot.
After her family becomes very wealthy, Rachel gets mixed up in numerous failed marriages, drink, drugs and many trips to rehab. All she wants is to escape from the pits of 'rock-bottom', but can she do this by chasing unrealistic expectations? Will she accept help from her ultimately flawed family? This is her story.

The sequel to T2 we have been waiting for!
The trailer alone got my hopes up and seeing James Cameron involved definitely made me think this could be a good Terminator film. T2 set very high standards that sadly the following Terminator films have failed to live up to in various levels.
Finally we have a film that feels like a true sequel to T2. Some old characters are back again, there are plenty of action packed scenes and crazy stunts with a bit of humour chucked in. In many ways it feels a bit like a retread of Judgement Day in terms of the plot. Though if it's not broke why fix it?
So finally we have the Terminator sequel we have all been waiting for. Check it out as who knows if Terminator will be back again.

An Amazing Spider-Man Film
I wasn't the biggest fan of Homecoming. It was a good film but lacked something to put it on the level of the best Marvel films. This however is definitely up there with the best of the them and one of the best Spider-man films. Coming so soon after Endgame and set a short while after those events it had a lot to live up to.
The action scenes are great as Spider-man leaves his neighbourhood and battles all over Europe. It still has plenty of funny lighthearted moments. It also deals with Spider-Man coming to terms of being a superhero and trying to have a normal teenage life. Overall another great Marvel film that's up with the best of them. Scenes after the animated credits and another after the final credits to wait for.
