Fast Five (2011)
Fast Five (2011)
2011 | Action, Drama, Mystery
Following on directly from 'Fast and Furious (4)' and still before 'Tokyo Drift', Dom, Brian and Mia are on the run after breaking Dom out of prison. When they cross the path of a Brazilian drug baron and with an FBI agent on there trail they need to get the family back together for (another) one last job.
Fast and Furious 5 (Fast 5) has taken the franchise from 'cops and robbers' and high school racing to a Heist movie and is bigger with more guns, more cars and more action.
With Brian now on Dom's team the franchise needs a new cop and, in Fast 5 this roll is given to Hobbs, played by Dwayne(the Rock) Johnson. Hobbs is more of an action guy than Brian was which leads to longer fight scenes and more shoot outs.
The end chase is one of the better one's I've seen with a huge amount of collateral damage.
Fast 5 shows that the franchise is getting bigger and better and it will be interesting to see where where it goes next.

Dredd- is a non stop action film from beginning to end. Karl urban was the perfect choice for dredd.

Mega City One is a vast, violent metropolis where felons rule the streets. The only law lies with cops called "judges," who act as judge, jury and executioner, and Dredd is one of the city's most feared. One day, Dredd is partnered with Cassandra, a rookie with powerful psychic abilities. A report of a terrible crime sends Dredd and Cassandra to a dangerous area controlled by Ma-Ma, a drug lord who will stop at nothing to protect her empire.

Once dredd and his parter are stuck inside a building no way in or out, thats when the real action begins, killing everyone in the way to reach ma-ma and stop her from releasing the slow mo drug to the world.

Its sad to see that dredd didnt do well in the box office or in theaters, because dredd was a great movie. Its also sad that we havent gotting a sequel to dredd.

Dredd is a highly reccomendation.

Dean Devlin's second crack at directing a movie (after the uproarious Geostorm) is probably marginally better but not as much fun. Car valet discovers one of his marks keeps a woman chained up in his office - what should he do? If he calls the cops, how will he explain his presence there? Interesting premise doesn't really go anywhere, though, and the battle of wits between hapless hero and weirdly omni-competent psycho is mainly expressed through people looking at their smartphones.

There's very little that's actually bad about this movie, and David Tennant is as capable as the villain as you'd expect (this role really demands a full 30% of his talent), but it rapidly turns into pretty formulaic stuff, often quite laboriously handled. Passes the time as background noise while you're doing something else fairly painlessly. It'd be great to live in a world where Tennant has the kind of film career he deserves, but I guess we'll just have to make the most of this one instead.

Super-slick espionage thriller from Hitchcock's late-50s imperial phase is one of the greatest pieces of escapist cinema ever made. Hapless ad executive Cary Grant finds himself mistaken for a secret agent and pursued across America by the bad guys and the cops, and forced to become a non-existent adventurer. Sparkling dialogue and effortless suspense is intercut with iconic set-pieces (the crop duster attack, the chase across the faces of Mount Rushmore).

Hitchcock makes it all look bafflingly easy, assisted by a very smart script and some charismatic performers (Grant is perhaps a touch too old - he was 55 at the time - but makes up for it with sheer star power). Maybe the plot doesn't completely hang together and the title has no relation to the story, but who cares? A deservedly enduring film, perhaps in more ways than one: add a touch more grit and some globetrotting to this recipe and you'd have something that looks very much like the formula for a Bond movie. Superb entertainment.
