Jurassic Park (1993)
Jurassic Park (1993)

Dino-mite Film!
Rearley does a film age well, particularly in tge 90s, but the quality of the anamatronics, CGI and practicàl effects let's this one stand the test of time (to an extent anyway).
Wealthy zoo lover John Hammond has invested his cash in the extraction of DNA from fossalised amber, lesing to the creation of dinosaurs!
As you can imagine, this is no walk in the park, and after a "incident" resulting in the death of a park worker, the insurance company want an investigation, and outside approval to declare the park safe to open.
Enter Drs Allan Grant ("Alan!") And Ellie Sattler, renowned paeleogolotists (the latter being a paeliobotpnist, no idea if that is spelt right...) As well as Dr Ian Malcolm.
They, along with the lawyer and John's grand kids take the tour of the park, but things do not go according to plan.
Filled with suspense, memorable moments, and more fake science than you can shake a fossle at, it is an epic tale of survival as "nature finds a way" to break it's bonds and sick a big middle claw up at OSHA.
I loved this film when I first saw it, and now, decades later, I still do. Even though I know the script by heart, I still find myself on the edge if my seat, holding my breath.
Parodied in thousands of other forms of media, I know I am not the only one.
I give this film 10 severed Samulal L. Jackson arms out if 10.

Deep Blue Sea (1999)
Deep Blue Sea (1999)

Fun in parts, but showing its age
The premise for Deep Blue Sea is painfully simple - it's Jurassic Park in the ocean.
A deep sea research facility, housing genetically modified great white sharks, is compromised during a tropical storm - everyone panics, people get eaten.
Like I said - Jurassic Park in the ocean. Unfortunately, the execution and quality is nowhere near the same level as it's dinosaur counterpart.

Deep Blue Sea is fun for sure. It's a sure fire way to mindlessly enjoy a couple of hours. At the time of it's release, it was firmly in the so-bad-its-great category, but as the years have gone by, the film has ages terribly in terms of special effects. The sharks look horrible these days. Like, original PlayStation cut scene kind of horrible. When films like JP, and Terminator 2 still look more than passable, it's hard to defend!
The dialogue is cheesy as all hell, and the whole thing is shot in a pretty sub-standard action film style - in summary, it's pretty awful.

That being said, it's a difficult film to hate too much. The cast are pretty fun for the most part - Thomas Jane, Samuel L. Jackson, Stellan Skarsgård and even LL Cool J are all pretty entertaining (apart from that god awful Head is Like a Sharks Fin song) and there are some genuinely gory and tense moments (as tense as people being chased by shiny pixels can be).

Is definitely an ok-crap film but the chances are that I'll watch it when it's on TV...

Doom: Annihilation (2019)

B Movie Fun!!
390. Doom: Annihilation. I put it on, the sole intention being to see if it was animated, roughly an hour and forty minutes later the movie ended. And I liked it a helluva lot better than the 2005 Urban/Johnson shitfest. This one obvi has the lower budget of the two, but in my opinion, they made it work. The CGI was minimal, and the creatures looked great for practical effects. I only recognized one of the actors, but again, for what this is, I thought the acting was pretty sweet. It has an Aliens meets Starship Troopers vibe to me, in a low budget way... On Earth scientists are working on a teleportation device to send people on up to the Martian moon of Phobos. But wouldn't you know it, something went wrong. It seems the quick trip through hyper space, the passengers may take a quick trip through a place that looks a lot like hell, or Mustafar, and may have picked up an extra passenger or two, oops. They are not friendly by the way, matter of fact they kind of just tear through everyone like toilet paper, but luckily there's a squad of Space Marines to help, or just become more food for the monsters from Hell. Is there a mad scientist involved? Um yea. So if you can handle the low budget-ness of it, it's a pretty cool sci fi flick. Screw the critics... Still staring at the cover photo, wondering if that's Frank still wearing his stupid bunny suit. Filmbufftim on FB
