Conan the Barbarian (1982)
Conan the Barbarian (1982)
1982 | Adventure, Fantasy
Well-remembered fantasy movie isn't very similar to Howard's original stories, but gets the tone more or less right and made Arnie into a proper movie star. Strapping barbarian lad's family is murdered, spends montage sequence growing up while strapped to a capstan, escapes, sets out for revenge, and so on.

Dodges most of the more tedious fantasy-movie cliches by being about a straightforward hunt for revenge rather than a quest for plot coupons. Arnie isn't quite up to portraying Conan's inner life, but hits people with an axe very capably. It's all very staunchly right-wing - opens with a quote from Nietzsche and continues in a similar vein - but the results are campy more than actually problematic. Bombastic score from Basil Poledouris is a major plus.

"Last but not least, I would just also mention a modern film. I was between Force Majure, this Swedish film, but then I thought, “Okay, let’s leave Europe. Let’s go to South America.” The Argentinian film Wild Tales was a film that I enjoyed a lot because it’s different episodes all dealing with revenge. One episode more clever and entertaining than the other. I think [it has] one of the funniest, surreal wedding scenes in film history. Probably my favorite wedding scene in a film ever. Very, very Latin American. Very brave. Muchos cojones. Incredibly smart and clever because revenge is told through so many different angles. Wonderful performances with the lovely Ricardo Darin, who is one of my favorite actors. Leonardo Sbaraglia — another wonderful Argentinian actor. A very powerful, fresh and wonderful film."

Sweet as
Number 2 in my #top10 favourite films of all time is 'A Bittersweet Life'
------------------------------------------
Without a doubt the greatest revenge #film ever made #abittersweetlife is a jaw dropping, beautifully shot, meticulously choreographed & accompanied by one of the most alluring soundtracks I've ever heard in a film. To look at this film as simply a #revenge film is missing out on why its so great, its a film about #freedom, innocence, loyalty & power with so much intricacy/depth to each if your willing to open your mind & delve deeper into its characters/themes. There's also so many absolutely stunningly #crafted, memorable, creative & tense set pieces here too that make almost every #action film look sub par in comparison. #Leebyunghun gives the performance of his career here , he's just so #cool, #stylish, dedicated & #charming that theres not one point your not #emotionally attached to him & engaged in the film. If you #love foreign films you can not miss out on this one its utter perfection & for me nothing will ever come close to how flawless it is. Make sure you watch the directors cut as the theatrical misses out a few extreamly important plot points.

Scorsese does a masterful job of updating a classic here. It was great he used both Robert Mitchum and Gregory Peck again in this version.
The tension between Nolte and Lange is palpable especially as Max Cady continues to invest himself in his revenge.
The ending is a little drawn out and far-fetched, but highly recommended.

One of the quintessential cult films since the term was invented, The Princess Bride is a movie that everyone seems to love. The characters are memorable, the dialog is snappy and funny and the movie just gets better every time that one watches it.

The war of the title is primarily one of the soul.Caesar’s revenge, when it comes, is told with poignant restraint. The conflict here is one of morality, identity and the boundaries of humanity; all the guns and napalm, are secondary to War’s purpose.

Enjoyed the book. The book is beautiful and clever, emotionally wrought and profoundly intelligent it will pull the reader into its wise world of jealousy, paranoia, grief, revenge and forgiveness in the stunning prose; however, I would like to add that the author could have conveyed its character Leo's anger and message across without the heavy use of foul language.
