Are you happy with your life?

This book has ripped me up inside. I’m not even that into sci-fi books, but this had me gripped and emotional from the very first page. If you’re looking to be whisked away to somewhere new, then pick up this. Dark Matter is an experience.

I actually don’t know what else I can say about this novel without spoiling the entire thing because I’m a mess of emotions right now and I know I’ll just spill everything out on the page that I shouldn’t. I don’t want to spoil this for anyone. This is the sort of book where you want to go in not knowing anything about it, because if you do, the fantasy and wonderment of this will be completely lost on you.

I guess this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but considering I don’t really like the sci-fi and romantic genres and I loved this, I would still recommend this to everyone! This is a thriller, sci-fi, romance novel all rolled up into one perfect package. I’m also just going to put this out there and say that this is the greatest love story ever, at least for me. Who needs Romeo and Juliet or Elizabeth and Darcy? Pfft.

Thanks to Netgalley and Crown Publishing for giving me the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

Firestarter is a relatively slow paced, sci-fi tinged thriller, with some nicely executed set pieces conservatively strewn throughout, and it works for the most part. The narrative is prone to drag on occasion, but it's pacing means that we get a host of characters that have room to breathe, and we can get to know. Whether it's Drew Barrymores adorable/unsettling protagonist (who straight up outshines the rest of the cast), David Keiths Roadhouse looking dad of the year, or George C. Scotts dodgy as hell orderly/assassin bastard, the characters are well realised and interesting to follow.
The effects work is top notch for the time, delighting in its multiple explosions and impressive fire stunts, and they make for some memorable moments, especially when Charlie goes full Carrie during the climax, all set to an 80s-as-fuck Tangerine Dream soundtrack
There are certainly better Stephen King adaptions out there, but Firestarter is a competent sci-fi horror that deserves its spot in amongst the big boys of the genre during this era. Interested to see how the upcoming remake holds up in comparison.

A flawed but enjoyable space movie
While the movie was acted well and the depiction of alien life form was interesting, the plot was quite bare. The characters didn't have enough development and had no depth regarding their relationships to each other. I liked this sci-fi thriller, though our astronauts seemed to lack some common sense and weren't as believable. The alien life form was original in design, but felt unrealistic in the power and intelligence gained in such a short period of time. The movie didn't do anything new and creative, but it was a fun film. However, the ending was predictable and kind of disappointing.

Great Sci-Fi film
A pretty good film, a sort of space disaster/thriller film as a crew set off for the Sun to drop a nuclear payload to kickstart it back to life and get Earth out of an Ice age. They are the 2nd team to set off, will they make it or suffer the fate off the 1st missing crew?
It has some good acting and SFX, the sets for the spaceship look very impressive and show some good ideas about the future of space travel. It's a bit slow to start but it makes up for this as things get more dramatic towards the end. Better than I expected it to be.

I loved this movie, but I thought the ending was stupid and kind of a cop out.

True but I like some of the ideas it has about space travel. Sets were impressive.

This was a good entertaining film, with some great actors, cool SFX and a decent story. However personally I feel the comparisons of Bourne Identity crossed with Inception is very misleading. If anything this is a romantic film with a bit of Sci-Fi and witty dialogue thrown in. The SFX towards the end is a tiny bit similar to Inception and other than Matt Damon starring and being on the run that's all it has in common with the Bourne Identity. If anything it reminded more of Serendipity, a film about fate, chance and destiny when it comes to love. Still a very good film to watch but it's not all out action or a thriller.

Someone to Watch over Me (1987)
Someone to Watch over Me (1987)
1987 | Action, Drama, Mystery
I doubt that many people would realise that this is one of Ridley Scott’s earlier films. From the opening scene you will notice a distinct Ridley Scott feel to it. The sweeping shot of New York’s Chrysler building could mirror a scene from the sci-fi classic Blade Runner.

Someone to Watch Over Me is a thriller in which a woman who witnesses a murder is sent to protective custody, there she falls for her bodyguard detective. It’s a fairly clichéd film in that it takes portions film noir as well as a classic love affair.

Tom Berenger plays the recently promoted detective who must control his desires for the women he is protecting. Claire Gregory played by Mimi Rogers is an innocent, sexy high class aristocrat who wants what she knows she cannot have.

It dips from thriller to love story and has interludes of high tension thrown in as an afterthought. The backdrop of a self obsessed 1980s America works very well and Scott’s direction is astute as it is clinical with great locations and camera shots. An average thriller but enjoyable nonetheless

So Insane and Crazy That I Had No Idea What Was Going on. (0 more)
Inside Your Head
Virtuosity- is a intresting sci-fi action thriller. Where Russell Crowe was the villian. He was so insane and crazy in this movie, i loved it. The only downfall was towards during the 3rd/the final act, it got so insane and crazy that I had no idea what was going on and i would have to watch it again. So if your going to watch this movie, be warned you have to do a second viewing cause of how insane and crazy it gets.

The plot: A former cop who has been imprisoned for murdering the psychopath who killed his family, Parker Barnes (Denzel Washington) is recruited to test out a new virtual-reality program where the goal is to apprehend a computer-generated being called SID 6.7 (Russell Crowe), who has been modeled on hundreds of deranged criminals. When SID manages to escape into the real world, Barnes must capture or destroy him before the soulless entity can go on a killing spree.

It mixes sci-fi, action, suspense and crazyness into one movie. A must watch if you haven't heard or seen it.
