⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A man waits in Vale, a world void of humanity. A mother vanishes, her disappearance concealed by the police. A girl collapses, black magic invading her blood. And a boy linked to them all must fight to save his family. Earth is just one of seven worlds. Gateways divide the realms and those who pass through must earn keys, participating in challenges that will separate the fearful from the brave, the weak from the strong, and the witless from the cunning. Sixteen year old Oliver Knight knows nothing of the other worlds or his family's dark past. But when his adopted sister succumbs to a deadly curse the truth is revealed and he is plunged into an unknown land in a desperate bid to save her. However, a sinister enemy is on the rise and the danger they face at every turn throws those around them under suspicion. I really enjoyed this story! It was hot, sad, horrifying and romantic. The mischievous spirit, who only showed up when needed, was brilliant and, together with the reactions from the various people, made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion.
The first book in a series, and I'm really looking forward to reading more. Definitely recommended.

This is a prequel novella that introduces the characters and sets up the premise of the series. Since I’ve read other stories with the characters, I already knew part of what we learned here, but I still enjoyed seeing everyone meet for the first time. The pacing is a little off because of the set up, but there is plenty of story here. In fact, there’s almost too much, but it does come to a logical climax. There’s plenty of humor and some serious issues as well, and the two are balanced perfectly. If you are looking for a fun, you’ll be glad you picked up this prequel.

This story is well-written with a steady pace. It will give you an emotional connection as you empathise with the characters and situations they find themselves in.
This is a fantastic debut novel that has definitely left me wanting more. A brilliant story that grips you from start to finish, you will need to know more about Sadie and Kian. Although this story comes to a satisfying conclusion, it also leads you perfectly into the next book which is due out later this year that I have GOT to read. Highly Recommended.
