Matthew Krueger (10051 KP) rated Hollow Man (2000) in Movies
May 13, 2021
For Old Times' Sake
Hollow Man- is a decent film. I perfer "The Invisible Man" and its remake over this. Kevin Bacon is good in this. Its more sci-fi than horror, but the horror in this is good. The sci-fi is good as well. It is slow for like the first hour. Than it starts getting good.
The plot: After years of experimentation, brilliant but arrogant scientist Sebastian Caine has discovered a way to make matter invisible. Determined to achieve the ultimate breakthrough, Caine pushes his team to move to the next phase - using himself as the subject. The test is a success, but when the process can't be reversed, Caine seems doomed to a future without flesh.
Its okay.

If you've seen the the movie quarantine this is the better orignal Spanish version which is way better version i thought the American version was okay but I wanted to see this version for a long time.
Manuela velasco plays a tv reporter who is filming a fire crew on call out to an incident at a apartment building when all hell breaks loose. For me Manuela is excellent as the reporter also a real life reporter in real life. The rest of the cast are good the make up so realistic. The movie had me on the edge of my seat thru out the 70 mins runtime. Sometime maybe I should watch the American remake again

David McK (3562 KP) rated The Karate Kid (2010) in Movies
Jul 4, 2021
2010 remake of the 1980s original, which - here - transplants the setting to China instead of Detroit, and which stars Will Smith's kid Jaden in the lead role with Jackie Chan downplaying his usual goofiness to take on the Mr Miyagi role made famous by Pat Morita.
While following the same beats as that original - single parent kid moves to new neighbourhood for his mums new job, is bullied, meets a handyman who teaches him the way of Martial arts while striking up an unlikely friendship with the same, takes part in a tournament - this also swaps Karate out for Kung Fu: meaning, yes, it should really be called 'The Kung Fu Kid' here!
(oh, and there's no 'Wax on, wax off' quote in this one)

David McK (3562 KP) rated Jumanji: The Next Level (2019) in Movies
Nov 4, 2021
Direct sequel to 2017s 'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle'; itself a quasi remake of the 1995 original updating it to a more modern audience in which the cursed game is now a video game cartridge rather than a boardgame.
Anyway, this mainly follows the same characters as in the previous entry but also introduces a few new 'real life' characters into the mix (portrayed by Danny DeVito and Danny Glover), with those characters then also getting sucked into the game.
As before, most of the comedy comes from watching the in-game characters (still portrayed by Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Kevin Hart and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson) doing imitations of their 'real life' counterparts, with Jack Black again stealing the show with his imitations!

David McK (3562 KP) rated The A-Team (2010) in Movies
Sep 2, 2020 (Updated Aug 11, 2024)
"Still wanted by the government, today they exist as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if nobody else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire... the A-Team!"
Big screen remake of the popular 80s TV show, with Liam Neeson taking on the role of Colonel Hannibal Smith, the leader of that group of soldiers that includes Face (and, yes, the original Face gets a cameo), BA Barracus and 'Howling Mad' Matt Murdoch and that takes as its primary plot point just why they are wanted by the government (to do with stolen printing press, apparently).
And I have seven words to sum it up: "No. They're trying to fly a tank".
