It's hard to review Parasite without spoiling the movie. If anything going in blind is probably for the best. So go see it before getting deep into any reviews.

Bong Joon-ho has been delivering astonishing cinema for some time now. From the gripping true crime serial killer odyssey memories of murder, the monster movie the host and the sci-fi dystopian action flick snowpiercer. Less we forget the equally gripping mother (not the Jennifer Lawrence flick) and the Netflix eco thriller Okja. Beyond the terrific direction, eye for detail and great performances every film has also contained a deal of political allogry behind it. Okja was very much about ecological concerns perhaps, but issues around class are common themes in most of his movies. Quite a lot of the time Koreas working/underclass. Snowpiercer is a straight up class revolt picture. Mother, the host and memories of murder all deal with class issues to some extent however. Parasite continues this theme with a look at the modern divide between rich and poor.
A poverty stricken family con their way into the lives of a rich family. Essentially in an attempt to raise their own social status. They quickly get rid of the existing help, a driver and housekeeper and replace them. Once their feet are under the table so to speak one might expect things to go smoothly. However there wouldn't be much more of a film. Naturally things begin to unravel.
Parasite is a funny, gripping piece of cinema that occasionally crosses over into unexpected territory. I don't want to give too much away but it can get genuinely shocking. Fans of Korean cinema and fans of Bong joon-ho might not find themselves AS surprised as the Oscar voters or the people discovering that Korea has a national cinema. Don't take this a sleight against the film though. Parasite is excellent and deserves the praise thrown at it
