I own an ad agency and am a writer by trade, but am working toward studying to become a private investigator. Typically read 2-3 books per week, and always find flawed characters and unreliable narrators compelling. Equally happy with lightweight, well-written page-turners, as well as epic adventures. I avoid romance and gimmicks. And overly florid prose. Have worked in bookstores and recommending books to others based on a few quick things--current mood, desired mood, and a couple of recent reads, and likely I can shoot you a list of things you may find enjoyable, satisfying, or heartbreaking--whatever you need.

Jan 30, 2018 (Updated Jan 30, 2018)
This novel is rich with character details and development, while holding back as much as the characters hold from themselves.
It’s an unfolding of the creative process, of friendship and love and loyalty, with a shadow of darkness and feminism. It could have become strident, but Whitaker strikes a balance of advancing the story while leaving the reader to draw their conclusions about self-exploration and the exploitation of others.
